Join the FIA Smart Driving Challenge 2025

The FIA Smart Driving Challenge (FIA SDC) is the world’s first challenge that rewards smart, safe and eco-friendly driving. It’s a global initiative in which everyday drivers compete to become smarter behind the wheel – helping to make roads safer and reduce environmental impact worldwide.

The challenge is a collaboration between the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and mobility, and Swedish risk intelligence company Greater Than.

Outside of the official FIA SDC heats, you’re free to drive as much or as little as you like. For all key dates and events, visit our calendar.

How it works

Once you download the FIA SDC app and create an account, you’re automatically added into the FIA Smart Driving Challenge.

The challenge consists of seven monthly heats, each lasting one calendar month. The season ends with the Playoffs, where the top 20 drivers compete for the final two spots in the live head-to-head Grand Finale.

Playoff Zone (Introduced in 2025)
All drivers have a chance to qualify for the Playoffs by competing in the Playoff Zone. To enter the Playoff Zone, a driver must complete at least one full month of driving (5 daily heats). From here you can win a ticket to the season playoffs and compete for a place in the Grand Finale.

Season Grand Finale
The top two performers from the Playoffs will meet in a live head-to-head challenge where the winner will be crowned FIA SDC Season 2025 Champion.

The Playoff Zone

Introduced for season 2025
The Playoff Zone is where drivers compete to reach the top 20 and advance to the Playoffs. To enter the Playoff Zone, you must compete in at least one month of driving – that means 5 daily heats in a single month. To compete for a place in the top 20, you must qualify for at least three months during the season.

Track your progress and aim for a top 20 position by the end of the season to secure your place in the Playoffs.

Ambassadors

All drivers in the FIA SDC app compete in teams led by official FIA SDC ambassadors. When you create an account, an ambassador is automatically assigned to you. You still compete as an individual, but your score also contributes to your ambassador’s team average.

Want to switch teams? You can join a different ambassador directly from their page in the app.

Together, ambassadors and their teams form a global community of driving positive change on the roads.

What can I win?

The top two drivers from the playoffs are invited to a live head-to-head final in December.

The winner will be awarded the title of “FIA SDC World Champion 2025” and will be invited to participate in the FIA Prize Giving Gala.

Previous finals have been held in Paris, Bologna, Dubai and Kigali.

Technical requirements

Getting started is easy – no additional hardware needed. Simply connect the FIA SDC app to your car via Bluetooth and start driving smart right away.

The app works seamlessly with all types of vehicles – including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric – and is designed to function in all road and weather conditions.

Appeal & protest

If you have any concern about the score or any dishonest behavior occurring during a heat, you have 24 hours after the heat is closed to send a written appeal to the organizer directly in the app in the “APPEAL” section or by sending an email to info@fiasmartdrivingchallenge.com

Please note:

  • The final results for each heat will only become official after the 24-hour appeal time has elapsed.
  • The official finish time of every heat is Sunday at 23:59:59 (all 24 time zones are considered).
  • All results will be published during the season on the FIA SDC app and updated during each heat.
